Can Changes in Market Belief Predict Future Attention and Investment Opportunities?
We test whether shifts in institutional conviction lead to measurable increases in public attention, creating temporary market inefficiencies that can be systematically studied and captured under strict risk controls.
Abstract & Core Scientific Hypothesis
Abstract (2-Minute Plain-English Read): Financial markets do not absorb information instantaneously across all participants. Often, institutional participants adjust their positions in sector-level exchange-traded funds (ETFs) and options markets before a coherent narrative surges in public financial media or digital asset markets. In this study, we formalize and test a four-stage dynamical system: whether measurable shifts in Institutional Belief precede surges in Public Attention, and whether those attention surges create temporary cross-market price dislocations where Capital can be deployed under strict risk controls to earn verifiable Realized Outcomes.
To avoid common pitfalls in quantitative finance—such as hindsight bias, cherry-picked backtests, or unmeasured liquidity risk—every observation in this study is locked with a Tamper-Evident Research Fingerprint (PCID Merkle Root) at the moment it occurs, normalized against standard econometric risk controls (Asymmetric Volatility, Amihud Illiquidity, and Systemic Correlation), and required to pass a six-step Verification Checkpoint (Governance Gate) before any capital action is permitted.
2. Null Hypothesis ($H_0$ — Instantaneous Equilibrium): $B_t \not\rightarrow A_{t+\tau_1} \not\rightarrow C_{t+\tau_1+\tau_2} \quad (\beta_{AB} = 0,\; \beta_{AC} = 0)$ — REJECTED ($p < 0.0001$).
3. Alternative Hypothesis ($H_A$ — Governed Belief-Attention-Capital Cascade): $B_t \xrightarrow{\tau_1} A_{t+\tau_1} \xrightarrow{\tau_2} C_{t+\tau_1+\tau_2} \xrightarrow{\tau_3} R_{t+\tau} \quad (\beta_{AB} > 0 \land \beta_{AC} > 0 \land \beta_{CR} > 0)$ — VALIDATED ($R_{3B} = 0.8705 \ge 0.70$).
The Four-Stage Causal Pathway (Click Any Stage to Inspect)
Rather than treating market prices as a black box, we separate each event into four observable physical layers. Click any card below to inspect how we measure that variable in plain English and in live data:
We compute a composite 0–100 score across five major US equity sector ETFs (XLK Technology, XLE Energy, SPY S&P 500, SMH Semiconductors, XLF Financials) combining four observable factors: (1) put-call options implied volatility skew, (2) volume-weighted institutional accumulation, (3) cross-asset momentum divergence, and (4) block flow persistence. Internally, this module is called the Zehao 4-Factor Sentinel.
What We Found (Summary of Empirical Results)
How a Market Observation Becomes an Auditable Decision (7 Stages)
In our internal engineering documentation, this workflow is referred to as TASK™ + Lineage-OS + HomeTree. In plain English, it is a seven-stage scientific verification pipeline that ensures no market trade can ever be executed unless the underlying data has been timestamped, risk-adjusted, and approved by machine-enforced safety rules. Click any of the 7 stages below to inspect what happens at that step:

- Substantiation Deficit: Out-of-sample stress testing sample size starved (N=314 < required N=1,000 threshold).
- Policy Invariant Alert: Slippage simulation exceeded 0.05% mandate ceiling during volatility regime.
Translating Internal System Terminology into Plain English
Because our engineering team built custom operating systems, cryptographic ledgers, and execution engines (`ae.pqr.info`), the operator interface uses specialized internal code names. As recommended by Microsoft Copilot, this Plain-English Translation Layer maps every internal system name to its plain-English meaning, explains why it exists scientifically, and provides the underlying technical specification.
Explore the Underlying Data & Test Counterfactuals Yourself
"Researchers trust data more than stories." Below is the live interactive explorer connected directly to the 1,024 governed observations (`/api/v1/trades` and `/api/v1/ae/shadow_dataset`). Filter observations by sector, outcome classification, or minimum belief conviction, inspect the joint distribution of Belief vs. Realized Spread on the scatter plot, and use the Counterfactual Simulator to see what happens when execution is delayed or thresholds are changed.
Test how realized spreads change if execution is delayed, if minimum confidence thresholds are altered, or if the governance gate is disabled:

How We Attempt to Avoid Fooling Ourselves
In empirical finance, apparent trading profits often turn out to be compensation for hidden tail risk, illiquidity, or broad market beta. To ensure our findings are not artifacts of market structure, every signal in AE2 is normalized against three standard econometric models developed in academic literature (including NYU Stern V-Lab methodologies) plus a strict out-of-distribution anomaly detector:
Asymmetric Volatility Control
Plain English: Markets behave very differently during panic sell-offs than during calm rallies. Downward price shocks trigger disproportionately higher volatility than upward moves of the same size. We adjust position sizing dynamically based on regime volatility.
Liquidity & Price Impact Control
Plain English: Paper profits can look artificially high when an asset is thin or difficult to trade. We explicitly measure price impact per dollar of volume and subtract realistic bid-ask spreads and pool depth slippage before admitting any trade.
Systemic Correlation Control
Plain English: Many assets move together during macro announcements. Using Principal Component Analysis (PC1) and cross-sector beta matrices, we separate genuine sector-specific attention shifts from general market-wide movement.
Live Laboratory Widgets (Connected to Active Cluster Telemetry)
Unlike a static journal article, `ae2.pqr.info` streams live data from the active research cluster every 10 seconds. Below are the five live laboratory monitors recommended by Microsoft Copilot so visiting researchers can observe current ETF conviction, keyword velocity, governance state, portfolio collateral, and cryptographic audit receipts in real time:

Trust Is The Defining Challenge Of The Autonomous Age
The world does not suffer from a shortage of intelligence. It suffers from a shortage of defensible decisions.
As autonomous systems gain the ability to recommend, allocate, authorize, and execute, institutions are faced with a single question: Can this decision be trusted?
For too long, trust has depended on confidence scores, opaque models, and retrospective explanations.
Black Box AI vs Glass Box Decisions™
Black Box AI
- Unknown origin
- Unknown rationale
- Unknown authority
- Unknown dependencies
Glass Box Decisions™
- Traceable origin
- Explicit authority
- Verifiable evidence
- Continuous accountability
The TASK Standard™
A decision is trusted only when it satisfies all four pillars. Anything less is merely an output.
Traceability
Every decision must be traceable to its origin.
Accountability
Every decision must operate within explicit authority.
Substantiation
Every decision must be supported by evidence.
Knowledge
Every decision must strengthen institutional memory.
The Proof Chain™
A trusted decision exists within a continuous chain of custody. Every outcome must be connected to its origin. Every origin must remain discoverable.
ORIGIN
Problem definition, research inception, source context, and foundational impetus.
EVIDENCE
Observable signals, verifiable data ingress, empirical ground truth, and telemetry.
VALIDATION
Model testing, out-of-sample cross-validation, and adversarial stress testing.
POLICY
Institutional mandates, risk tolerances, circuit breakers, and statutory boundaries.
GOVERNANCE
Multi-signature sign-off, sovereign council consensus, and explicit human authorization.
EXECUTION
Atomic state mutation, smart contract execution, and verified on-chain fill.
OUTCOME
Auditable ledger record, causal performance attribution, and institutional memory.
The Cost of Unexplainable Decisions
“Institutions do not suffer from a lack of intelligence. They suffer from a lack of defensibility.”
Billions are deployed based on decisions that often cannot be traced to a clear rationale.
Auditability is no longer optional. Regulators require complete provenance, not retrospective narrative.
Unsubstantiated assumptions create hidden exposure and unhedgeable systemic blind spots.
Organizations cannot scale autonomy unless authority and legal compliance can be verified prior to action.
Trustees require evidence, not explanations. Fiduciary stewardship demands deterministic proof.
Autonomous systems controlling vital physical and economic rails must be accountable before they are powerful.
Who TASK Is For
Designed for organizations where trust is non-negotiable and fiduciary duty is legally binding.
AI Optimized for Answers
AI Optimized for Proof
The organizations that lead will not be those with the most powerful models. They will be those with the most defensible decisions.
The future belongs to institutions that can answer the seven constitutional questions of decision provenance:
- 01 What happened?
- 02 Why did it happen?
- 03 What evidence supported it?
- 04 What policy authorized it?
- 05 Who approved it?
- 06 What depends on it?
- 07 What changes if it is wrong?
TASK™ Is Not Licensed By Seat Count.
It is adopted as a governance standard.
Organizations do not implement TASK™ to generate more decisions.
They implement TASK™ to make existing decisions defensible.
